Dear Editor, There are many worker recognition days and weeks throughout the year, but I would like to highlight one that often goes unnoticed. The second full week in September is celebrated as national Direct Support Professional Recognition (DSP) Week. These are people at the heart and soul of the care system serving individuals with disabilities. DSP work is not for everyone, but for those who sense a call to serve, give of themselves each day and enjoy this highly relational and fulfilling line of work. If you have a DSP in your life, meet one in the community or come into contact through your recreational or work functions, would you say “thank you?” The simple practice of being acknowledged for our work can have lasting impact. And, the work of DSPs allows individuals with disabilities to live the best lives they can. Sincerely, Name Phone and email address Location
