Staying in touch with members

The change in seasons is upon us, and I am pleased to report that MOHR is actively working on several positive initiatives.

It’s always refreshing and informative to hear from members at the Legislative Conference in August. At the end of the conference, attendees cast their votes for the upcoming issues they deem most important. MOHR’s Government Affairs Committee uses this information to draft a legislative workplan for the 2020 Legislative Session.

We want to be good listeners, and there are several ways for members to stay in touch. Our lobbyists are touring the northern and southern portions of the state this season to meet with members and hear their concerns. Kevin Goodno and Anni Simons excel at answering questions, providing perspective, and taking member concerns to the Capitol. See the schedule here and please participate when you can.

An additional way members can make themselves heard is through the MOHR survey that was recently sent out. It’s another important piece of how we will strategize and plan our approach in the next year. Thanks to all who have completed it, and to the others   please check your inbox and fill it out.

We are closely tracking the waiver amendment approval process including the Competitive Workforce Factor. This increased funding for higher staff wages was approved last session and is expected in January. We have been in close contact with DHS on this process and are awaiting final CMS approval.

Additionally, we are looking forward to building a productive relationship with new DHS Commissioner Jodi Harpstead. As you may know, the commissioner has extensive experience with ARRM, our partner in the Best Life Alliance.

All in all, we are hopeful for what 2020 will bring, and grateful for the work of our members. Our advocacy can help preserve and expand the choices offered to the individuals we serve. We can speak as one voice when we come together.
