Professionals from across Minnesota and beyond gathered in Waite Park, MN from May 19-21 for the 2025 MOHR Spring Training Conference—a powerful three-day experience filled with inspiration, education, and a strong sense of community. Held at the Park Event Center, this year’s theme, “Honoring the Past, Working in the Present, Embracing the Future,” set the tone for meaningful conversations and forward-thinking collaboration across the disability services sector.

The conference opened on Monday with a moving and memorable keynote by renowned playwright, actor, and storyteller Kevin Kling, whose humor and honesty set a powerful tone for the days ahead. Attendees explored sessions focused on entrepreneurship and celebrated the talents of local artists and crafters - highlighting the creativity and innovation that exists within our communities.

Tuesday was packed with dynamic breakout sessions centered on professional development and advocacy. From certifications for direct support professionals and supported decision-making, to the latest in virtual reality for career exploration and evolving licensing trends, the sessions were rich with actionable insights. Conversations around employment and inclusion sparked new ideas and renewed commitments to advancing opportunities for individuals with disabilities.

On Wednesday, the conference turned its focus toward leadership and systems change. Attendees dove into topics such as designated coordinator and manager roles, developing social enterprises, strategies for supporting individuals with FASD, and reducing silos in service delivery. The event wrapped up on a high note with an energizing and inspiring closing keynote by Kathy Parry, JOY-JOLT: Ignite the Power that Energizes Teams leaving attendees motivated to return to their organizations ready to create impact.

Throughout the conference, the spirit of community was palpable. Networking moments, shared learning experiences, and fun raffle drawings brought attendees closer together. One of the most celebrated highlights of the event was the announcement of Lori Schluttenhofer as the recipient of the 2025 MOHR Inspire Award. Lori’s incredible leadership, advocacy, and dedication to improving the lives of people with disabilities made her a deeply deserving honoree and a standout moment of the conference.

Thank you to everyone who was able to participate in the 2025 Spring Conference. Your presence, energy, and commitment made this gathering a true success.
