MOHR members across the state mourn the tragic death of Minnesota Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, from a targeted attack on June 14th. Their positive impacts on the State of Minnesota will be felt for many years to come.

Our thoughts continue to be with Senator John Hoffman, his wife Yvette, and family during this difficult time. We extend our deepest hopes for a full and speedy recovery. May they find strength and comfort in the love and support of their families, colleagues, and the community as they heal.

In the days to come let us focus on healing, not just for those directly impacted, but for our entire community. Healing means listening and support, while also finding ways to rebuild with compassion and understanding. It means choosing to rise above hate with strength and determination, choosing dialogue over division, and standing together even stronger than before.

We cannot undo the damage that has been done, but we can work together to foster a future grounded in peace and respect.

Supporting Disability Service Providers

MOHR is the collective voice of its members - organizations providing employment and day supports to adults with disabilities throughout Minnesota. Together, we create an environment where service providers are empowered to fulfill their missions so that adults with disabilities across the state are able to lead connected and engaged lives.

MOHR News

Five years ago, MRCI began a strategic initiative, moving away from center-based services and in-center employment to focus entirely on competitive, community-based employment and person-centered day services. While this transition was already in progress, the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the effort and deepened the organization’s commitment to innovation, adaptability, and mission-driven support. Today, MRCI’s transition has been a success, serving more than 1,200 individuals annually.

The MOHR EE Committee’s work this session reflects both integrity and innovation. They made bold choices in challenging circumstances, choosing collaboration over competition and placing people at the center of every decision. We’re proud to recognize and celebrate their exceptional leadership in protecting and strengthening Minnesota’s employment support system.

The 2025 session was a challenging one for disability services. After five months of many legislative proposals and debates, legislators officially adjourned in the early morning hours of June 10th. In the end, MOHR and the broader disability services advocacy community were able to advocate against the passage of the most destabilizing proposals.

To our MOHR members, self-advocates, families, friends, and allies - thank you. Your voices, your persistence, and your courage throughout this year’s legislative session did not go unnoticed or unappreciated. In what proved to be a particularly challenging session, your commitment to advocating for people with disabilities and the professionals who support them was a powerful reminder of the strength and unity within our community.
