Thank you to everyone who attended the 2026 Disability Services Day at the Capitol! Your voices made a difference, and we appreciate each of you who came to support Minnesotans with disabilities. We are grateful to the self-advocates who spoke up for their services and rights and shared their stories. Thank you to the direct support professionals who took the time to advocate for the funding needed to provide daily care and support. We also thank the families and friends who came to support their loved ones, the allies who stood with their communities, everyone who made and held signs, and the drivers who helped people get to the event. We appreciate the legislators who spoke at the rally and met with their constituents, as well as all the staff who helped organize the day.
Together, you affirmed that people with disabilities matter, have rights, are valued members of our communities, and deserve the support, programs, and funding needed to live independent and fulfilling lives.
Our work this year is just getting started, so hold on to that momentum and keep finding new ways to support disability rights and services.
- Write or call your local legislators to thank them for supporting disability services and to share your story about why these issues matter.
- Attend a local advocacy event or a community meeting to stay informed on current disability policy discussions.
- Invite a policymaker to tour your facility or organization, giving them a firsthand look at the impact of quality disability services.
- Lift up the voices of self-advocates and create opportunities for them to share their experiences.
MOHR welcomes members to get more involved by attending MOHR board meetings, participating in a MOHR committee, or joining us at the 2026 MOHR Spring Conference. Keep an eye on our website, newsletter, and social media for more opportunities to participate and advocate.
