The 2025 session was a challenging one for disability services. After five months of many legislative proposals and debates, legislators officially adjourned in the early morning hours of June 10th. In the end, MOHR and the broader disability services advocacy community were able to advocate against the passage of the most destabilizing proposals.

To our MOHR members, self-advocates, families, friends, and allies - thank you. Your voices, your persistence, and your courage throughout this year’s legislative session did not go unnoticed or unappreciated. In what proved to be a particularly challenging session, your commitment to advocating for people with disabilities and the professionals who support them was a powerful reminder of the strength and unity within our community.

Professionals from across Minnesota and beyond gathered in Waite Park, MN from May 19-21 for the 2025 MOHR Spring Training Conference—a powerful three-day experience filled with inspiration, education, and a strong sense of community. Held at the Park Event Center, this year’s theme, “Honoring the Past, Working in the Present, Embracing the Future,” set the tone for meaningful conversations and forward-thinking collaboration across the disability services sector.

Lori Schluttenhofer, CEO of Services for Opportunity Partners in Minnetonka, by multiple nomination, has been awarded the 2025 MOHR Inspire Award. The Inspire Award recognizes an outstanding individual whose leadership, dedication, and collaboration have meaningfully improved the lives of people with disabilities; who has made a lasting impact in the field of disability services; and who motivates others to take action in support of inclusion and equity.

Earth Day, observed every April 22, is a valuable opportunity to reflect on how we care for the planet—and how we include everyone in that mission. For MOHR members across the state, Earth Day offered a meaningful chance to promote environmental responsibility while empowering individuals with disabilities to take an active role in shaping a more sustainable future.

As MOHR members are aware, it was a highly unusual start to the MN 2025 legislative session. We will need to keep the pressure on lawmakers to see their community members with disabilities and their support staff as a priority as they do the difficult work of balancing the state’s budget. Every additional conversation that takes place between a lawmaker and a local contact about the value of disability employment and day support services helps.

MOHR is honoring two organizations with 2025 MOHR Choice Awards - Udac, Inc. and WACOSA. The awarded organizations both support Minnesotans with disabilities through educational, employment, social, and recreational programming.

The Minnesota Organization for Habilitation and Rehabilitation (MOHR) proudly participated in the 2025 Disability Services Day at the Minnesota State Capitol on March 18, joining over 1,000 advocates from across the state to speak with legislators about the importance of protecting and prioritizing funding for disability services.

MOHR member organization Ita Bel Koo DAC is a small agency is located in a very small town Northhome, Minnesota. With help from volunteers around the community, including those from Ita Bel Koo, a former hospital building was renovated into a residential housing building for folks with disabilities called Sam's Place.

PRI produced a professional grade movie called "Boy Band in a Haunted Hotel" after starting a filmmaking class for the artists in their visual arts program.

MOHR’s board has approved the 2025 Government Affairs workplan, setting the stage for the organization’s work going into what could be an unusual legislative session.
